The First 10 Amendments to the Constitution

1st Amendment | Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition |
2nd Amendment | Right to keep and bear arms; states' right to have a militia |
3rd Amendment | Freedom from having to allow soldiers to stay in citizens' homes in time of peace |
4th Amendment | Freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures (taking of personal property in your home) |
5th Amendment | Freedom from being accused of crime except by a grand jury indictment and from being tried twice for the same crime |
6th Amendment | Right to a fair trial in criminal cases |
7th Amendment | Right to jury trial in most civil cases |
8th Amendment | Right to reasonable bail, fines and punishment |
9th Amendment | Protection of rights not written in Constitution |
10th Amendment | Powers not given to federal government are reserved to the states or the people |
