Understanding Terms
Term | Definition |

Characteristics | List the qualities. |
Classify | Group the items into categories. |
Define | Write down the precise meaning of a word or phrase; in some cases it may be necessary to give an example or a very brief description. |
Describe | Give a written description in point form. Use a diagram to back up your answer, if possible. |
Dietetic value | Covers information on the value te particular food has in the diet. |
Discuss or give an account of | Requires a very detailed description of what is being asked. Remember to structure your answer in point form. Provide at least six points in your answer. |
Enumerate, list, state | List the points, no elaboration is necessary. |
Evaulate: | Make and assessment of the worth of something. Refer to negative and positive uses. |
Explain: | Give a detailed account. Back up your answer with a specific example and include a diagram if applicable. |
Illustrate: | Make something clear by the use of concrete examples (diagrams) to explain or clarify a point. |
Informative paragraphh: | Provide at least five points in your answer and structure it in point form. |
Name, select, suggest: | State the answer in one of two words. There is no need for detail. |
Outline: | Write one or two sentences on each point, i.e. give a brief description. |
Principle: | Give a reason for or a description of a working method. |
Properties: | List the features of a substance, e.g. fat-soluble. |
