TermDefinition
Crop to cut off the sides of an image to make it the proper size or to remove unwanted parts of an image.
Fill: to paint the inside of an enclosed object
free Rotate: allows you to rotate a graphic to any angle
Gray Scale: represents colors with different shades of gray for use with a non-color printer
Grouping allows you to work with several objects as though they were one object
6. Handles little squares at the edges and corners of a selected graphic on your screen
Pixel a collection or series of dots making up an image or the display on a monitor (the more pixels the better the picture)
Resolution: Refers to the sharpness and clarity of an image; it is measured in dpi (dots per inch)
Scaling: Re-sizing images to fit your layout
Thumbnail: a miniature version of a picture or page layout
Toolbox: a collection of drawing and painting tools included in a graphics software package
Vector: an image is stored as lines rather than a series of dots or pixels
GIF Graphics Interchange Format; a bit-mapped graphics file format with low resolution and compressed to minimal file size for use on the web. It is a format especially chosen for animation effects.
JPEG Joint Photographic Experts Group; a standard file for shrinking graphics so they transmit faster between modems and take up less space on your hard drive; This is the most widely accepted and used format for
PNG Portable Networks Graphics: a format designed for the web; It will usually create a smaller file size than a GIF format.
BMP: Windows Bitmap ; a huge image file that has no advantage over other image formats; These files take up a lot of space on a hard drive.
TIFF: Tagged Image File Format; a file used in graphic design, publishing, and photography industries; The files are very large and have a slow loading time.
