Term | Definition |

Work | Any activity that requires effort. |
Employment | Work carried out in return for payment. |
Employees | People who work for others in return for payment. |
Employers | People who hire others to do work for them in return for payment. |
Labour force | All of the people who are available to work. |
Unemployment | People who are willing and able to work but are unable to find a suitable job. |
Redundancy | Workers who are let go from their job. |
Self-employed | People who work for themselves. |
Public sector employees | Employed by the state e.g. Teachers, Guards. |
Private sector employees | Not employed by the state, they work for private companies e.g. Carpenters, Factory workers. |
Jobseeker's Benefit | A sum of money paid to unemployed people on a weekly basis. |
Employee Right | To feel safe in their job and get a fair wage. |
Employee Responsibility | To be honest and trustworthy and do a fair day's work. |
Organisation structure | Shows the position of each person in the organisation from the top down. |
Managing Director | Responsible for the day-to-day running of the business. |
Supervisor | Responsible for making sure others carry out their jobs properly. |
Human Resources Manager | To recruit new staff and provide training for existing employees. |
Manual worker | Carries out physical work e.g. builder. |
Clerical worker | Carries out office work e.g. typing, filing. |
