assertion | A declaration or statement of argument A =“to” cert =“true” To make true The student made the assertion that English classes were too hard. |
cogent | Well-reasoned, correct, or logically follows well, reasonable, and convincing. Co = together gent=good genes or beginnings. A therefore B, B therefore C, A therefore C is a cogent argument. |
coherently | Connected logically; comes together well; easy to follow the series of parts. Co = together here= stick to Instead of speaking coherently, the teacher went off on tangents. |
exculpate | To free from guilt or blame Ex = out culp=blame The defendant was exculpated when another person confessed to the crime. |
pundit | An authority or expert who can speak about a topic; i.e. a talking head (negative connotations) Pun = having to do with speech The pundit on Fox News was wrong about many facts in the story. |
