Cellular Respiration Vocabulary
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Anaerobic | Any process that occurs in the absence of oxygen |
Glycolysis | The 1st stage of cellular respiration anf fermentation pathways in which glucose is broken down to pyruvate, produces ATP and NADPH |
Latic Acid Fermentation | This process occurs after glycolysis in the cytoplasm of the cell and produced latic acid, which makes your muscles sore and is used to make yogurt, cheese, pickles, and sauerkraut |
Aerobic | Any process that requires oxygen to occur |
Krebs Cycle | The second stage of cellular respiration that uses Acetly-CoA to create NADH, FADH2, ATP and CO2 |
Mtiochondira | The organelle in which the majority of cellular respiration occurs; the "powerhouse" of the cell |
Electron Transport Chain | The final stage of cellular respiration in which the energy of electrons is used to move H+ across the inner membrane |
ATP Synthase | This protien is at the end of the electron transport chain and is used to create ATP using the movement of H+ across the inner membrane |
Alcoholic Fermentation | This process occurs after glycolysis in the cytoplasm of the cell and produces ethanol and CO2; used to make beer and bread |
Cellular Respiration | The chemical process occurring in all living cells in which glucose is broken down to produce ATP |
