who are aristocrats? members of the upper class, nobles that lead the government.
who are helots? enslaved people owned by city-states.
who are perioeci? merchants and artisans who lived in the villages.
who were members of the assembly? all citizens who were over 20 years old.
what is an assembly? it passes laws and decides questions of war and peace.
when babies were born, what did they do? they examined them for any diseases or a sickness. if there was a sickness they would be left on the hillside to die.
what was the role of a boy? they would go to military camps to live in when they turned 7.they also learned how to read and write and use weapons.
what was the role of a man? they would marry at 20 years old. they would also live at the military barracks. they would retire when they turned 60.
what was the role of a women? they also preformed some household duties, they enjoyed watching sports such as wrestling and racing. they were also allowed to participate in sports
why did they prevent change? they didn't want the new ideas to weaken their way of life.
