Who was Justinian? A powerful ruler of the Byzantine Empire, that restructured the Hagia Sophia and Constantinople.
How did Justinian make Constantinople a strong and beautiful capital? He created Justinian Code and built structures to protect the city and created public places like schools, courts, etc.
What weakened the Byzantine Empire? Constant warfare; shrinking the empire in 1350 and eventually being conquered by the Muslim Turks and the Bubonic Plague
What was the difference between religious leaders in the Eastern and Roman Churches? In the East there was an autocrat and the West a pope.
What factors led to the schism in the East? separateness from Rome and the emperor banning icons
What was Justinian's Code? a body of civil law that controlled Byzantine life
