The Consumer

Consumer | anyone who buys goods or services for their own use |
Brand | the identity of a particular product |
Receipt | written proof to the consumer that they have purchased and paid for a good or service |
Credit note | A document made out to the consumer for the value of the goods returned. It allows them to purchase other goods from that shop equal in value to the goods returned. |
Bar Code | small rectangle containing black and white lines and figures which contains information such as product name , price, weight etc |
Guarantee | promise from a manufacturer to offer redress to consumers free of charge who have purchased faulty goods within a stated period of time |
Warranty | is an additional promise by a manufacturer or seller to repair damaged goods within a period of time |
Caveat Emptor | Let the buyer beware |
False Economy | where you think you are making a saving in the short term but end up paying more in the long run e.g. not getting a car serviced |
Types of Redress | Refund, Repair, Replacement |

Ombudsman | s a representative of the people. The Ombudsman will investigate complaints by members of the republic who have a problem with certain organisations. |

Evaluate the Ombudsman | Free of charge so saves people a lot of money. Intimidating for an ordinary person to take on a public body such as a government department. Ombudsman has the legal power to take on the public body and investigate the person’s complaint. |
