TermDefinition
Caucus Not holding a primary but instead a form of district and state convention.
Closed primary People declare their party before voting then are only able to vote for the candidates in that party.
Open primary Someone who doesn't declare their party so they receive a voting slip with candidates from all partys yet still only choose one.
Blanket primary Like an open primary, but get to choose someone from each party.
Superdelegates Party leaders and office holders to serve as uncommitted delegates.
Balance the ticket Balancing the geography and ideology of a president and vp.
General election Candidates who win their party then run against each other for the position of president.
Polling place The location the public can vote at.
Exit polls When news reporter survey a handful of people then guess who may win.
Coattail effect When a president takes office and others from his same party take other high positions.
Political Action Committees (PAC) Limits to the amount of money a person can give to a candidate. This can be avoided by donating the money to the whole party. From here the party is able to distribute the money to whom ever they choose.
