Consumer is a person, organisation or business that buys goods and services for their own use
Good consumer knows what they want and doesn't buy impulsively and is aware of their rights, the agencies and the laws that can assist them
Receipt written proof of payment for goods and services.

Sale of goods and supply of services 1980 Merchantable Quality. Fit for their purpose. As described. Correspond to sample. Suppliers of services must be qualified.
Consumer Protection Act 2007 forbids suppliers giving any misleading information about goods, price, quality, service etc.
Contract legal binding agreement between the seller and consumer that states that in return for payment the goods/service must be of certain standard
Brand name unique name given to a product to distinguish it from similar products made by other companies
Redress Refund, replacement and repair
A guarantee or Warranty is a written undertaking that the manufacturer ,or somebody appointed by the manufacturer, will repair or replace an item within a stated period of time after the purchase date
Trade association is an organisation representing all or most of the producers or sellers in a particular industry
Ombudsman is a person responsible for investigating and resolving complaints from consumers or other members of the public against a company, institution, or other organisation
Credit note is given by the seller to the buyer to show that the amount owing or paid has been reduced
Reasons for consumer protection overcharging, unsafe or low-quality goods, poor workmanship, misleading advertisements
Food label Shows the name of the food, the ingredients in descending order, the unit price, the actual price and sell-by date
Bar code A series of lines on goods that can be read on computer scanners
Unit pricing Shows the price per litre/kilo and enables the consumer to make better choices than if they were dealing with price per item
The director of consumer affairs Enforces consumer legislation and educates consumers
Small claims court Provides a cheap and ow level legal way of solving small complaints
Consumer complaint Where a consumer expresses their dissatisfaction with the goods and services received and seeks compensation
