When do you first suspect that something may be unusual about Mrs. Dodds?	She made Percy erase answers from an old math workbook until midnight. She points a finger at Percy and says Honey.
Who was Kronos and what happened to him after the gods defeated him?	Kronos was the king of the titans. They sliced him to pieces and sent to the Underworld.
Why does Percy get angry at Mr. Brunner?	He got on to him for not doing good at the museum.
How have things changed when Percy returns to the front steps of the museum?	storm coming with black clouds
CHAPTER 2 Why does Percy decide to study Latin exam even though he's given up on his other subjects?	Mr. Brunner told him it was life or death.
After Latin test, what do you think Mr. Brunner was trying to say to Percy? Why does Percy react angrily?	Mr. Brunner said it wasn't the right place for Percy. Percy is embarrassed and thought he meant that he could not handle it.
What responsibility does Grover claim to have and why does this strike Percy as strange?	He protects Percy. Percy has had to protect Grover all year and keep bullies away.
How does Grover reach when Percy tells him about the yarn cutting?	He closed his eyes and made a gesture with his fingers like he was crossing himself.

CHAPTER 3 Why does Percy leave Grover at the bus station?	Grover was freaking him out.
Percy says some people have the rottenest luck. How does this apply to his mom?	Her parents died in a plane crash when she was 5. She was raised by an uncle who didn't care. Her uncle got cancer and she had to quit college to take care of him.
How does Percy get even with Gabe as they're loading up the Camero?	He made a hand gesture then shoved Gabe with the screen door.
What new info does Percy learn about his dad when he and his mom are roasting marshmallows?	His dad has never seen him and did not know him as a baby.
How does the title - Grover Loses his Pants come true?	Grover doesn't have pants on anymore and his feet are now hooves.
CHAPTER 4 What does Percy say that insults Grover?	Percy said he looked like a half donkey.
What does his mom tell him to do when they get out of the car and why does he disobey?	She tells him to run but he disobeys because he wants to get his mom and save her.
What happens to his mother?	She was squeezed by a minotaur and disintegrates.

CHAPTER 5 Why does Grover say he retrieved the Minotaur horn?	Annabeth said it was a great prize and anyone would try to kill to get it.

CHAPTER 7 What does it mean to be undermined?	Nobody knows who Percy's Dad is
Why is Annabeth frustrated when she and Percy talk about quests?	She says something is wrong with Olympus. She is not too young but she has to wait until somebody special comes along to go on a quest.
Why does Luke feel bitter?	He is bitter at his Dad, Hermes
What does Percy wish for as he puts his dinner unto the fire?	He wished he knew what god's name to say

CHAPTER 8 Why are the counselors having a hard time deciding who Percy's Olympian parent is?	Percy is not strong like Ares kids or good at archery like Apollo kids. He doesn't have metal work or vines to work with
How does Percy surprise everyone during his first sword class? How do you think he was able to do this?	Percy did a move that takes a long time to learn. Percy had a surge of energy and the tip of sword was at Luke's chest. Luke was undefeated.
Why did the Big Three gods swear never to have any more children?	Their children were too powerful and would affect human events.
Why does the story about Thalia make Percy feel hollow and guilty?	A girl his age had sacrificed herself to save her friends.
Are you surprised about Percy's true identity?	Saw it coming because something happens every time he is around water
CHAPTER 9 Why does Percy feel miserable once he gets his own cabin?	He didn't have anyone to share his cabin with. He felt separated like he had a rare disease.
What is happening in the real world while Percy is in camp according to the newspaper?	Percy and his mom are still missing.Camaro was found burned up.Percy might be a suspect because Gabe said Percy was a troubled child.
Why does Zeus think Percy stole the master bolt?	Percy was in New York over the winter holidays. He could have snuck into Olympus.
What evidence suggests that Hades stole the lightning bolt?	A Fury came after Percy. They only obey one lord - Hades
Why does Percy have to travel over land?	If he traveled by air, he would be in Zeus's domain and be killed.
CHAPTER 10 Who is Argus and why can he never be surprised?	He is the driver for Percy into the city and will keep his eyes on him. He has eyes all over his body.
What gift does Luke give to Percy? Why can't Percy use them?	magic flying tennis shoes. He couldn't fly because he would be in Zeus domain and Zeus would kill him.
What special properties does Riptide have?	Celestial bronze forged by Cyclopes deadly to monsters
What is Mist?	Whenever monsters mix with mortal world, mist is formed to obscure vision of humans
Why did Percy's mom really marry Gabe?	He smells so badly that his smell masks the presence of a demi god. She married him to protect Percy.
Why doesn't Percy leave the bus when he has the chance?	the old ladies turned into gargoyles and surrounded Grover and Annabeth
CHAPTER 11 What is Annabeth upset with Percy risking his life on the bus?	She wants to be able to finish the quest. Also, they lost all their food and supplies when the bus caught on fire by the lightning.
Why does Grover get nervous at the emporium?	There are a lot of statues there. There was one statue that had a startled girl. He smelled monsters. One statute looked like his uncle.
What clues gave away Aunty Em?	when they heard the hiss sound and her black veil
Why does Annabeth say they have to kill Medusa? Why can't they just run?	They don't want her to turn others into statues. She puts people in a trance and they can't run.
Why does Percy send Medusa's head to Mount Olympus?	He was really mad at the gods for putting them on the side of the road.
CHAPTER 12 Why does Grover want a searcher's license?	He wants to find Pan.
According to Grover, why did Percy mail Medusa's head to Mount Olympus?	Percy wanted his dad to notice what he had done.
What realization does Percy make toward the end of the dream? What does the voice want from him?	The thing in the pit was using Percy to pull itself out. Bring the bolt and strike it against the gods.
Who is talking to Percy in the dreams?	Kronos. Dead whisper for Percy to wake up
CHAPTER 13 Why does Percy try to keep a low profile on the train?	His name and picture are on the front page of several newspapers.
Why does Percy laugh when Annabeth tells him what she wants to be?	He thinks it is funny that she wants to sit still and draw.
Describe Chimera	Head of a lion with a blood caked mane, body and hooves of a giant goat, and a serpent for a tail - ten feet
What is Percy's fatal mistake for battling the Chimera?	He slashed at its neck but it sparked harmlessly off the dog collar. He forgot about the serpent tail which whipped around and sank its fangs in Percy's calf.
Why does Percy decide he has to jump?	He is dying. He hopes the humans will be okay if he leaves. Poseidon is his father and he hopes the water will save him.
CHAPTER 14 What happens when he lands in the MS River?	He did not die when he landed and he can breathe under water.
Why does he feel ashamed that Poseidon saved him?	He couldn't save the people in the arch. He just got lucky before.
What message does the woman in the water bring to Percy? What is her warning?	Take the sword. Your father believes in you. Go to Santa Monica but don't trust the gifts.
What does Percy learn about the people in the Arch from overhearing the reporters?	There were survivors.
What happened to the family that was in the Arch with Percy?	They were sent to the hospital and survived.
CHAPTER 15 What is Iris messaging?	The rainbow goddess Iris carries messages for the gods. Make a rainbow with a spray gun of water.
Luke tells Grover it will be better this time. What does this say about Grover's past?	He had a hard time before. Thalia was turned into a pine tree and he was supposed to protect her.
What does Ares say that convinces Percy to help him?	He told him that he would let him know something about his mom
How does Annabeth put her knowledge of physics to work on the water ride?	She said to jump on her mark because of force times the trajectory angle.
Who do you think Percy is angrier at - Hephaestus or Ares?	Ares because he tricked Percy
CHAPTER 16 What is in the backpack?	fresh clothes for all, 20 dollars, bag of double stuf oreos, drachmas
Annabeth says Percy wasn't smart to anger Ares.	No not smart because Ares is the God of War
Percy says Annabeth should write a letter to her father.	Yes she should
When does Percy realize the casino is a trap?	He saw a guy 13 who was dressed like Elvis. He said the year was 1977 and he had been there only two weeks.
How does Percy snap Annabeth out of her trance?	He said large hairy spiders and looked into her eyes
CHAPTER 17 How does Annabeth pay for the trip to Los Angeles?	She gave the taxi driver her green lotus cash card from the casino - unlimited funds!
Why doesn't Riptide work on the kids who jump Percy in the alley?	They were mortal.
Why doesn't Percy fight Crusty?	He couldn't fight this giant alone. He would snap Percy's neck.
How does Percy find the address of the Underworld?	On a bulletin board behind Crusty's desk - advertisement for Hermes Delivery Servie then DOA Recording Studio
CHAPTER 18 Why does the DOA security guard get annoyed with Percy?	He said Chiron and his name was Charon.
What does the River Styx look like?	It is polluted with bones, dead fish, plastic dolls, crushed carnations, other things humans throw away, dreams, hopes
Would you choose EZ Death or go be judged by Asphodel	be judged for actions
How does Annabeth save them?	She has a red rubber ball and throws it.
Do you fell sorry for Cerberus?	He has three heads and does not get to play like other dogs.
CHAPTER 19 What do you have to do to enter the Isle of Blest?	For people who chose to be reborn three times
How is Hades aura different from Ares?	Percy feels Hades should be his master. His joints feel numb and he wanted to lie down at Hades feet. He would probably sleep forever.
Why was Percy's backpack getting heavy?	Zeus's lightning bolt showed up in the backpack.
What terrible choice faces Percy when he decides to use the pearls?	He only has three. Each one protects one person.
How do Annabeth and Grover prove to be real friends?	They say they will stay and for him to take his mom
CHAPTER 20 Why does Percy will himself to get soaked in water?	When the Coast Guard appeared, he didn't want to be dry getting out of the water.
Ares says the best kind of war is when relatives fight each other.	relatives fight the worst because they have a lot of emotions.
Why does Percy begin to suspect that Ares wasn't acting alone	Ares said that he did not have dreams - Percy said he didn't say anything about dreams so Ares knows about Percy's dreams
After Percy wounds Ares, something happens to make Area back off	light faded like a cloud covered the sun, sound and color drained away. Time slowed and it was freezing.
At the end of the chapter, what does Percy decide he must do to complete the quest?	He needs to get back to New York so he must fly in an airplane.
CHAPTER 21 When the LA reporters interview Percy, how does he get back at Gabe?	making Gabe a statue
How does he convince the guard at the Empire State Building to let him see Zeus	shows him the lightning rod
How does Zeus reward him?	by sparing him
Why doesn't Percy petrify Gabe when he has the chance?	his mom took care of the problem
CHAPTER 22 What's the tradition for campers who return from quests?	They wear laurel wreaths and had a big feast. The Ares cabin honored Percy by painting smiley faces with x'ed out eyes around border and the word loser - Percy burned this gladly!
What happens to Grover?	He left to search for Pan. Annabeth says they would see him again!
Why does Percy have so much trouble trying to decide to leave the camp or stay?	He thought about how many monsters would attack him if he left the camp.
What is unique about Backbiter, Luke's sword	One side is celestial bronze but other other side is tempered steel. It works on mortals and immortals.
What turned Luke so bitter?	He is mad at his father, Hermes. The gods let Thalia die. They sent him on a quest Hercules did and he came back with a scar from a dragon.
