Project communication
Term | Definition |

Communication | The means by which information or instructions are exchanged. Successful communication occurs when the received meaning is the same as the transmitted meaning. |
Conflict management | The process of identifying and addressing differences that, if left unresolved, could affect objectives. |
Collaborative negotiation | Negotiation that seeks to create a ‘winwin’ scenario where all parties involved get part or all of what they were looking for from the negotiation. |
Negotiation | A discussion between two or more parties aimed at reaching agreement. |
Active listening | A communication technique which requires the listener to feed back what they hear to the speaker, paraphrasing what they have heard in their own words, to confirm what they have heard and to confirm the understanding of both parties. |
Communication plan | A document that identifies what information is to be communicated to whom, why, when, where, how, through which medium and the desired impact. |
Arbitration | The process of using a third party appointed to settle a dispute. |
Conflict resolution | Approach to finding away through conflict. Common models include Blake & Mouton, Thomas Kilmann and Pruit. |
Kilmann conflict resolution model | Describes five main styles of dealing with conflict that vary in their degrees of cooperativeness and assertiveness. |
Mediation | An attempt to settle a legal dispute through active participation of a third party (mediator) who works to find points of agreement and make those in conflict agree on a fair result. |
