What are politics and government? They way things happen and change in a society.
Why were schools prohibited from discriminating race? Because school was designed for your education, not racism.
Why do you a need a Social Security number? To be able to get a job.
Why do politics matter? Politics matter because they can make differences in terms of benefit checks.
What is federal policy and why is it important? Federal Policy is what provides regulations for human participants, without it, you would never get credit for anything.
When did Barack Obama first run for office? 1993.
When was Barack Obama officially elected president? 2008.
What is "Year of the Youth Vote"? The year most adult teens voted.
Under what percentage of people rarely follow politics? A nation wide survey proved that people under 30 concluded they rarely followed politics.
What is the problem with lack of interest? The problem with lack of interest is lack of information.
Thomas Jefferson said? "There never has been, nor ever will be, a people who are politically ignorant and free."
What kind of overreaction did Stephen Bennett and Eric Bademacher have? "We can legitimately winder what the future holds if young people remain as uniformed as they are about government and public affairs."
What has happened in every election from 1972-2008? The American National Election Studies has asked a question and over half aren't even interested.
Delli Carpini and Scott Keeter make a strong case for what? The importance of staying informed with politics.
What age group is mostly involved in politics? The elderly because they know they are in stake of not being counted for.
By 2020, what will be predicted? The elderly will make up over 51% of money and elections.
Why have young people never really been interested in politics? Because no president makes their speeches suitable for teens.
Why doesn't using television programs help catch the youths eyes? They expect it to be upbeat and interesting, when usually really he's directing what they want to do for the country, not everyone else.
What is government? The institution that makes up public policy decisions for a society.
How many elected officials are there in the United States? 55,000.
Who determines whom we select as governmental leaders? Politics.
Political scientists often quote which quote and by who? "Who gets what, when, and how." Written by Harold D. Lasswell.
Media focuses on what part of politics? The "Who" part, which includes voters, candidates, groups, and parties.
Political Participation? The way people get involved with the politics.
Many people judge the health of a government by? How widespread political participation is.
America does poorly with what subject? Voting, America has the lowest voting rate in the world.
Why doesn't low voter turnouts not show up at the polls? Voters are a distorted sample of the public as a whole.
Why do groups with a higher vote turnout count? Because they have more participation in politics.
What are other ways you can earn political participation? Be part of groups, or even become a candidate.
Single-issue groups? Groups that gather people that are for or against the same thing, usually large amounts of people to make the vote accountable for.
Why do individual citizens and organized groups get involved with politics? They know that public policy choices made by governments affect them in significant ways.
Collective goods? goods and services that cannot be denied to anyone.
Policy-making system? Process where a policy is being made and evolves.
President and members of Congress are expected to do what? Keep the economy humming along; so they can be voted for again.
linkage institutions? political channels through which people's concerns become noticed by the politics.
Policy agenda? Issues that attract the attention of public officials.
Political issue? Issue that arises when people disagree about a problem.
Policymaking Institutions? Branches of government charged with taking action on political issues.
