Data processing | involes doing all nessary paper work for a business on a computer |
Modem | a device that links a computer to the telephone system |
Program | a set of instructions that will make the computer complete certain tasks |
Network | where many computers within an organistion are linked together so that all of them can access information from the same source |
Broadband | a high speed method of connecting to the internet. it means your phone line can be operated at the same time |
CAD | (Computer aided design) used to produce architects or engineers drawings |
CAM | computer aided manufacture used to organise production in factories |
Cursor | a flashing line or box or arrow that indicates the users positions on the screen |
USB | a usb key is a small portable and easy to use device for storing large quantites of info |
Virus | is a program has been designed to damage info |
hardware | parts of the computer you can touch and see |
software | programs on the computer that allows you to create documents e.g. ms word |
Consumer | anyone who buys goods for personal use |
Brand | A brand is different makes of a product. E.G Cadburys and Nestle are both chocolate brands |
false economy | A product that's cheap but more expensive in the long run |
Merchantable Quality | the product is sellable quality. |
Fit for the purpose | the product is suitable for its job |
Same as description | the product is what the description said it was |
remedy | The options if the product is faulty |
credit note | A note that's like money but has to be used in that shop |
guarantee | A promise for free repair or replacement |
Ombudsman | A company that investigates complaints of consumers |
Small claims court | Its used by consumers with claims under 1500 euro |
Loss leader | A product that sold at a loss |
Below cost seller | Selling at a loss to attract attention |
receipt | proof of purchase |
Bar codes | a code to identify the product |
Caveat emptor | (Let the buyer beware) making sure the consumer knows what the quality is like |
