In a corrections environment, non-deadly force may be used against a person who is passively resisting a lawful command that may affect the safety of members and inmates and/or to maintain or restore control and order in a correctional facility
Non-deadly force may involve physical control intermediate weapons and/or incapacitation techniques
In order to protect the officer or others
an instrument or object that is not necessarily designed for such use or one with which the officer may not have been trained or certified to use, may be used as long as it is used in accordance with the limitation on force contained within the RTR policies
Officers may use deadly force when the officer reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to themselves or another person
