What are the elements of design? color, shape, form, texture, and space
What are the principles of design? balance, harmony, rhythm, proportion, and emphasis
What is the principle repetition? Rhythm of an element throughout a design
How does texture affect color? Rough textures absorb light while smooth textures reflect light
What do curved lines suggest? Natural, calm, relaxing
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? Vertical balance means that the top and bottom of it is balanced. Horizontal balance is when the sides (left and right) are balanced or symmetrical. Radial balance is when there is a center point that radiates outwards.
What do diagonal lines suggest? It suggests movement and excitement
What is space? The entire room and the qualities of it
What are the four types of rhythm? Regular, random, gradation, and graduation
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? It is informal balance where both sides are not exactly the same but have different objects the same size that also take up the same space. An example of this is a bowl of cupcakes and a big cake.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? Horizontal lines run across from left to right and represent calmness. Vertical lines run up and down and represent stability, strength, and height.
What is the golden mean? The ratio 3 to 5
What is the difference between shape and form? Shape is 2 dimensional and form is 3 dimensional
What are the five types of balance? radial, vertical, horizontal, symmetrical, and assymetrical
What does unity or harmony mean? When a room displays many elements or principles of design
What are the two things texture involves? how something feels or how it looks like it feels
What are the four types of line? Horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curved
What is proportion? the way a part relates to a whole
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? asymmetrical
What is symmetrical balance? Example? Symmetrical balance is when both sides of a place have the exact same things on each side an example of this would be if aa had one orange on one side and another orange on the other
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? The emphasis or vocal point of the peice is the most important because it draws the viewers eye to a specific part of the room.
What happens when you use a continuous line? it guides the viwers attention throughout the room
What is another name for symmetrical balance? formal balance
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation balance is when object changes an element a little, like if a figure increased or decreased in size. Radiation has a center pion and radiates outward
