Know the Coreolis Affect It doesn't allow the wind to move straight across the earth
How do waves differ from out in the middle of the ocean and the waves towards the shore The shallowness from the shore causes friction from the sand causing the waves to break and crash; out in the middle of the ocean the waves form a circular motion going in circles
Heterotrophs Don't make their own food
Autotrophs Make their own food
What is a common way of making ones own food? Photosynthesis
If photosynthesis is not an option what else can be used to make food? chemosythesis
Would you expect to find a large amount of heterotrophs in a place with little sunlight? No, because they have to rely on autotrophs for food and autotrophs rely on photosynthesis
An angle fish is an example of what? poikilotherm and an ectotherm
A shark is an example of what? poikilotherm and an endotherm
A dolphin is an example of what? homeotherm and an endotherm
Why is drinking salt water bad for you? It tries to equalize the amount of salt content in your body so it sends out even more water from your cells making you more dehydrated
Why does a strawberry sweat? Sugar is more concentrated on the outside so it sends water out to equalize; osmosis
Diffusion travels from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration
Diatoms used in toothpaste
Brown algae Algin - used to hold things together (stays mixed together) EX: pudding
Relationship between a fungus and algae Fungus provides support and algae provides the food
Why does sea grass not need big showy flowers for reproduction? The currents take the gametes along
