The FTO Program is designed to supplement | the basic training requirements of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) |
supplied at the Training Academy with the post–basic operations training | aspects of corrections work |
The FTO Program will provide new officers with practical corrections–related experience | and practice during on–the–job training as a corrections officer under the direct supervision of an FTO |
All new Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Department of Corrections employees | will not be promoted to Corrections Officer until they successfully complete the FTO Program |
Each Corrections Officer Recruit will successfully complete | the FTO Program prior to beginning their probation |
If a Corrections officer is separated and had successfully completed | a FTO Program but had not completed their probationary period |
If rehired less than six months after separation, he may be returned to duty | without having to complete another FTO Program |
The employee will have to successfully complete | the required probationary period |
If rehired more than six months after separation | but less than one year, he will be returned to duty after completion of a five day Transfer Phase of the FTO Program |
The employee will then become a Corrections Officer and complete the required probationary period prior | to being returned to full rank and duty status |
If the employee is rehired more than one year after separation | they will be required to complete another full FTO Program |
and probationary period prior | to being returned to full rank and duty |
If an officer is separated | and had completed their probationary period |
If the employee returns to service less than six months after separation | they will be returned to duty without having to complete another FTO Program |
Their probation will begin | on that first day of hire |
