Particleboard | a combination of wood shavings, veneer scraps, chips, and sometimes sawdust that is mixed with glue and pressed together under heat |
Plywood | consists of, three, five, or seven layers of less expensive wood material glued together under heat |
Warping | losing its straightness |
Wicker furniture | furniture that is woven to thin, flexible, twigs, branches, and stems, often from willow trees |
Wrought iron | a tough, durable form of iron that can be hammered and bent into different shapes |
Elevation | a diagram that provides a side view |
Overlay | a sheet of transparent or see through material that is placed over a basic drawing |
Pictorial Drawing | a drawing that shows the viewer several surfaces of objects in the room simultaneously |
Rendering | a drawing in which the designer adds realistic details, such as textures, shadows, shadings, and color |
Sample board | a piece of illustration board with mounted samples of proposed wall coverings |
Fluorescent light | a visible light produced when chemicals inside a sealed glass tube transform ultraviolet rays |
Incandescent light | light produced by electricity passing through a tungsten filament in a glass bulb |
Halogen bulb | a bulb containing pressurized halogen gas, which makes it more efficient than a regular bulb |
Fiber optic light | emits no heat and no ultraviolent rays |
Light emitting diode | a silicon “chip” about the size of a grain of salt and made of crystals |
Valance lighting | consist of a light source mounted over a window and hidden by the window valance |
Luminous ceiling panels | consist of plastic tubes placed above plastic panels |
Cove lighting | is similar to cornice lighting but directs light upward toward the ceiling |
Soffit lighting | is a light source enclosed in a box like structure that directs light downward |
Strip lights | rows of incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes around the top or sides of a mirror |
Downlights | direct a beam of light from the ceiling downward |
Wall washers | are small recessed ceiling lights that spread light over a wall from ceiling to the floor |
Cornice lighting | a concealed light source that is mounted near the junction of wall and ceiling and directs light downward |
