In what ways was the Nile River important to the ancient Egyptians? It provided good farmland, water for humans, herds and irrigation, and also provided a transportation route..
Why did the Egyptians develop a calendar? It was created to help them know when the Nile would flood. It also helped them determine a growing season and a harvest season.
3 Egyptian Kingdoms (old, middle, new) Under who's rule did Egypt begin to expand the Nile Valley? The Old Kingdom developed and built pyramids. They built them as tombs(graves) for their rulers. The Middle Kingdom is the expanding of the territory making it very large. The New Kingdom was a period in which Egypt became the world's largest power.
Why did Egypt want to control Nubia? They wanted to control the trading routes, they wanted more wealth, and they wanted gold.
Why were the Nubians able to regain their independence by the 1600s bc? They wanted to govern themselves once again.
What are Kandakes? Ruling queens in Kush.
Afterlife (vocab) life after death.
Dynasty (vocab) A series of rulers from the same family.
Nation-state (vocab) A region with a united group of people and a single government.
vizier (vocab) The chief adviser to an ancient Egyptian pharaoh.
obelisk (vocab) An ancient stone monument; a tall slender stone pillar with four sides and a pointed top.
trade route (vocab) A path that traders use as they exchange goods.
trading network (vocab) A system in which buyers and sellers from different places exchange goods.
Know the Egyptian calendar and the 3 phases Where the nile would flood and when it was going to be the next year. Name of seasons were Akhet, Proyet and Shumo.
