OT Supervision
Supervisory Guidelines for OT Personnel
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Direct Supervision | face-to-face contact between supervisor and supervisee |
Indirect Supervision | non face-to-face contact between supervisor and supervisee, including electronic, written, and telephone communication |
Close Supervision | daily, direct contact at the site of work |
Routine Supervision | direct contact at least every two weeks at the site, with interim indirect supervision |
General Supervision | at least monthly direct contact with supervision as needed indirectly |
Minimal Supervision | provided on an as needed basis, may be less than monthly |
Intermittent Supervision of OT Aides | sufficient for non-patient related tasks of an aide; periodic discussion, demonstration, or contact on at least monthly basis |
Continuous Supervision of OT Aides | required for client-related tasks of an aide; OT or OTA must be within auditory or visual contact of immediate area during task |
Entry Level OT | SUPERVISION: none required; close supervision by an OT recommended SUPERVISES: aides, techs, OTAs, level I students, volunteers |
Intermediate Level OT | SUPERVISION: none required; routine or general supervision by an advanced OT recommended SUPERVISES: aides, techs, OTAs, level I and II students, entry level OTs |
Advanced Level OT | SUPERVISION: none required; minimal supervision by an advanced OT recommended SUPERVISES: aides, techs, OTAs, level I and II students, entry and intermediate OTs |
Entry Level OTA | SUPERVISION: close supervision by OT SUPERVISES: aides, techs, volunteers |
Intermediate Level OTA | SUPERVISION: routine or general supervision by OT SUPERVISES: aides, techs, entry level OTA, level I OT students, level I and II OTA students |
