TermDefinition
Weathering Wear away or change the appearance or texture of by long exposure to the air.
Mechanical Weathering Processes that cause physical disintegration of exposed rock without any change in the chemical composition of the rock
Frost Wedging A collective term for several mechanical weathering processes induced by stresses created by the freezing of water into ice.
Exfoliation The peeling away of outer layers.
Chemical Weathering The erosion or disintegration of rocks, building materials, etc., caused by chemical reactions (chiefly with water and substances dissolved in it) rather than by mechanical processes.
Oxidation The process or result of oxidizing or being oxidized.
Erosion The process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents.
Deposition The action of deposing someone, especially a monarch.
Rill Erosion Rill erosion evolves into a Gully over time. Its the first step of the gully.
Gully Erosion The removal of soil along drainage lines by surface water runoff.
