Most of the elements in the periodic table are classified as Metals
The elements that touch the zigzag line are classified as Metalloids
The elements in the far upper right corner are classified as Non metals
These elements are often called semi-conductors and are used in electronic devices Metalloids
Hydrogen is the only one of these that is not on the right side of the periodic table Non metals
These elements are often shiny and are good conductors of heat and electricity Metals
Elements in the first group have one valence electron and are extremely reactive. They are called Alkali metals
Elements in the second group have 2 valence electrons and are also very reactive. They are called Alkaline
Elements in groups 3 through 12 have many useful properties and are called Transition metals
Elements in group 17 are known as "salt formers". They are called Hologens
Elements in group 18 are very un reactive. They are said to be "inert". We call these Noble gases
Elements in this group are the most reactive non metals Halogens
