Parts of a Flower

Define Angiosperm The seed-bearing part that produces flowers
Define Petals One of the sets of whorls, they also attract pollinators.
Define Sepal They lie outside of the plant and protect the bud.
Define Stamen The male reproductive part.
Define Filament The part that holds up the anther.
Define Anther The part that produces pollen grains.
Define Pistil The female reproductive part.
Define Style The middle of the pistil that supports the structure and stigma.
Define Stigma The top of the pistil that collects pollen grains.
Define Ovary The large base where eggs are produced.
What is the advantage of having colorful petals? The color is more easier to spot than green.
Why are sepals and petals referred to as accessories? Because they don't have a job.
What do anthers produce? Pollen Grains
What elevates the anther? The filament.
Why is it important to elevate the anther? So the pollinators can pollinate it without having to dig around for it.
What are two ways pollen grain can get to the stigma? Air and Animals
Why do flowers usually contain more stamen than pistils? So there is a larger chance the pollen grain would get to the pistil.
What elevates the stigma? The style
Why is it important to elevate the stigma? So the pollinators can pollinate it without having to look for it.
How does the structure of the stigma aid in pollination? The stickiness makes the pollen stay.
What part of the flower developed into seeds? The eggs
When fertilized, what does the ovary grow into? A fruit
