Ferdinand Magellan First Portuguese captain to send a crew around the world.
Henry Hudson Sailed to the New York harbor in 1609 and claimed the land around the Hudson river for the Dutch.
John Cabot Made 2 voyages in 1496,1497 where he claimed part of Canada for the British.
Jacques Cartier Sailed to the St. Lawrence river in 1541. This led to the founding of a new French colony of Quebec which extends from Canada to the Mississippi River to present day Louisana.
