weathering review

QuestionAnswer
What causes granite to breakdown? expose to plant acid causes granite to breakdown.
what results from rock abrasion? due to abrasion rock will change in size.
what happens to a rock when it is weathered? when a rock is weathered it is broken down into smaller pieces.
What are the 5 causes of physical weathering? Temperature change, pressure change, animal action, wind water gravity, plant growth.
what are the 4 causes of chemical weathering? reactions with oxygen, reactions with acid precipitation, reactions with acid in groundwater, reactions with acids in living things.
which causes do they both have in common? Explain in detail why you think so & how you know. Water and living things cause both chemical and physical weathering to happen, water can cause physical weathering by abrasion where rocks bump into one another and break down worn into smaller pieces.
what are the 2 main causes of crack growth in rock over time? the two main causes of crack growth in rocks over time are ice wedging and plant growth.
how does animal behavior cause physical weathering? an animal makes a burrow and pushes up rocks and soil from underground to the surface. when the rocks are on the surface they are more exposed to different kinds of physical and chemical weathering.
how does weathering affect a soft rock compared to a hard rock? why? weathering will affect a soft rock more than a hard rock because since the rock is soft it will be more likely to breakdown and get weathered easier.
what is abrasion? the physical weathering process of breaking down and wearing away of rock material over time.
what are 3 causes of abrasion of a rock? water, wind, gravity.
what happens to rock because of chemical weathering? when a rock weathering it will crumble and break apart more easily.
