TermDefinition
Citizen a native or naturalized member of a state or nation who owes allegiance to its government and is entitled to its protection
Naturalization to confer upon (an alien) the rights and privileges of a citizen.
Immigrant a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence.
Deportation the lawful expulsion of an undesired alien or other person from a state.
14th Amendment an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1868, defining national citizenship and forbidding the states to restrict the basic rights of citizens or other persons.
Permanent Resident an immigrant who has been given official residential status, often prior to being granted citizenship
Undocumented alien has violated immigration requirements, but is still a legal person under the law, as is anyone under the jurisdiction of the law.
Political Asylum asylum provided by one nation to refugees, especially political refugees, from another nation.
Government the political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of a state, community, etc.
Divine Right he doctrine that the right of rule derives directly from God, not from the consent of the people.
Social Contract the voluntary agreement among individuals by which organized society is brought into being and invested with the right to secure mutual protection and welfare or to regulate the relations among its members.
Oligarchy a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.
Dictatorship a country, government, or the form of government in which absolute power is exercised by a dictator.
Democracy government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
