Lines | Used to organize information, simulate movement, lead the eyes and enhance a design |
Positive Space | length, width, and depth of objects |
Negative space | "white space"; the distance between objects; gives a design breathing room |
shapes | 2D space; used to enhance a publication |
geometric | square, triangle, cirlce |
form | 3D space added to objects by addition of shadows, tone, or color transitions |
mass | size/amount of space taken up by an element |
organic | natural or man-made objects such as leaves, trees, and cars |
texture | used to convey a "visual" sense of feel |
color | can be used to evoke emotion |
calming colors | cool colors |
exciting colors | warm colors |
neutral colors | beige, ivory, taupe, black, grey, white |
color harmony | a visually pleasing arrangement of colors |
color pallette | a chart used to choose colors |
complementary color scheme | any 2 colors directly opposite each other on the color wheel |
analogous color scheme | any 3 colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel |
monochromatic scheme | uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single color |
color on monitors | RGB; additive color |
color on printers | CMYK; subtractive color |
color matching | process of matching colors on computer to colors printed using ink |
hue | a color |
value | brightness of color |
tint | hue plus white |
shade | hue plus black |
saturation | amount of hue used; color's intensity. |
