Term | Definition |
---|---|
measurement validity | does the measure capture what it is supposed to capture? potential usefulness of test results. |
research validity | how well does study control extraneous factors? The degree to which the results of study can be directly attributed to the independent variable only. Internal & external validity; generalizability of findings |
content validity | how well all parts or items of instrument represent the aim/intention of the instrument; are there any parts that should be excluded from the instrument due to irrelevance to construct being tested. |
criterion validity | degree to which a measure is related to a measure w/ established validity |
concurrent validity | |
construct validity | reflection of the operational def of construct being tested |
construct validity (2 types) | 1. convergent validity 2.discriminant validity |
analysis of convergent & discriminant validity | Correlations: Pearson-prod (r), Spearman's rho (p), & Kendall's Tau (t) range from -1 to 1 Excellent correlation > 0.6 whether neg or positive correlation |
2 types of criterion validity | 1. concurrent validity 2. predictive validity |
