| Term | Definition |

| muted group | people belonging to low-power groups who must change their language when communicating publicly , thus their ideas are often overlooked |
| gatekeepers | editors and other arbiters of culture who determine which books, essays, poetry, plays, film scripts, etc. will appear in the mass media |
| second shift / third shift | work as family caretaker, then work as student, both undertaken after working a full-time job |
| sexual harassment | an unwanted imposition of sexual requirements in the context of a relationship of unequal power |
