How does Ismene urge Antigone to forego her intention to bury Polynices? Ismene urges Antigone to desist because of all these reasons.
Why does Creon choose not to give Polynices a proper burial? Polynices led rebel forces against the city of "Thebes and against his brother, Eteocles."
How does Creon describe the current political situation, the ship of state, in Thebes? Creon states that he fears another civil war.
When the sentry tells Creon that someone has buried Polynices, the Chorus asks,"I have been wondering, King: can it be that the gods have done this?" What major conflict in the play underlies this question? The conflict between religious authority and civil authority.
How does Cron respond to the sentry? He says the sentry is lying when he reports that he cannot identify the culprit. He accuses the sentry of reporting the burial only to deflect his own guilt. He says that anarchists have conspired and have bribed the guard to bury the body.
What is the role of the Chorus in the Greek tragedy? To express commentary and judgment on the actions of main characters.

At the end of Scene 2, the chorus states, "Fate works most for woe / with Folly's fairest show." What does this statement mean? By making foolish choices due to pride, people bring a miserable fate upon themselves.

How does Haimon respond to his father's entreaties at Antigone's vault? Haimon kills himself with his own sword. Haimon blames the death of his bride, Antigone, on Creon. Haimon dies with Antigone in his arms.
Why does Eurydice leave the messenger without a word? She leaves to commit suicide in private.
What is Creon's attitude at the end of the play? He says, "I have been rash and foolish."
Consider the final four lines that the chorus speaks: There is no happiness where there is no wisdom: No wisdom but in submission to the gods. Big words are always punished, and proud men in old age learn to be wise. Creon
