Document Terms
Term | Definition |

margin | The space between the edge of a paper and the typed information |
date | This can be displayed in two proper forms month day, year or military day month year |
inside address | Name, street number name, city, state, zip – also the person who is receiving the communication |
salutation | Is the greeting used to open a communication (i.e. Dear _ ) |
body | The information containing paragraph(s) stating why the communication is written |
complimentary close | A statement (not a sentence) which allows a writer to end communication |
signature block | First creating space by hitting the enter key 4 times and then typing the writers first and last name. |
identification initials | Writers initial character from both first and last name (done in caps) followed by a colon and the person who typed the communication also initial character from both first and last name (done in lower case) |
attachment(s) | An item that accompanies a memorandum |
enclosure(s) | An item that accompanies a letter |
copy types [cc, bc, ic] | When other parties are notified of the same communication either by mail or internet |
modified block | A style of letter that aligns the date, complimentary close and signature block to the three inch mark |
full block | A style of letter that aligns the entire text to the left. |
agenda | A document that organizes a meeting for any attendee |
memorandum | A document that announces information to an individual or group |
minutes of meeting | A document that records information discussed in an official business meeting |
academic report | A document that provides information on a specific subject or topic |
footnote | A citation that is used to identify your source and is placed at the bottom of the page |
endnote | A citation that is used to identify your source and is placed at the bottom of the document |
