SANITATION

Sanitation is the responsibility | of all personnel |
Personnel shall maintain high standards of sanitation | in all areas by ensuring established cleaning schedules are adhered |
Disposal and decontamination of bio-hazardous materials | will be handled as outlined in Corrections Operational Order 11.14, Infectious Material/Communicable Disease Exposure Control |
Area supervisors shall ensure their area of responsibility | is clean, free of clutter, food, and trash routinely throughout their watch |
Daily documented sanitation inspections will be conducted | every watch by each operational area supervisor as required in D&R Housing Security Sergeant 1 |
resulting in sanitation problems, which cannot be corrected | will be documented as outlined in Corrections Operational Order 10.15, Facility Inspections and Operations and Program Review |
A formal inspection of each facility will be conducted by | the Division Chief or his designee at least once a week |
Upon inspection of their area of responsibility personnel will notify | their immediate supervisor of any maintenance and/or sanitation discrepancies |
Evidence of vermin will be immediately reported | via email to the Services Sergeant for corrective action |
All inmates will be required to perform cleaning duties daily to maintain | the cleanliness and good order of their immediate living and common areas |
All sentenced inmate bunks will be made during | the inmates' waking and working hours |
No blankets, sheets or towels will be allowed | to hang from a top bunk in a manner which would block any portion of an officer's view |
Inmates' immediate living areas will be kept | as neat as possible |
No clothing, trash, or other items will be on the floors, the railings or the ledges | above housing cell doors |
No items, such as pictures, calendars, or letters | are permitted to be adhered in any fashion to bunks, walls, windows, or lockers |
No items will be placed against cell windows | to allow officers full view into all areas of cells and dormitories |
No blankets or sheets will be hung in | such a manner to obstruct the officer's view |
Inmates will not store perishable food or other items | from the facility kitchen in their living areas |
Single serving food purchased from commissary | must remain sealed until eaten |
Disposable drinking cups purchased from commissary | are intended for single serving use only |
Following single use | the cups will be discarded |
When an inmate removes his mattress from the cell he is leaving | the trusties shall clean the mattress |
Security officers shall supervise and provide the trusties | with the proper cleaning material in a bottle labeled Mattress Sanitation |
When an inmate reports a possible infestation of head or body lice the corrections officer will notify the Charge Nurse The inmate will be assessed by medical personnel | as soon as possible and prior to the end of the shift |
Only a medical emergency in progress in the medical service areas will preclude | this examination |
Officers will notify their area supervisor | if the inmate is not treated before the end of the shift |
If the infestation is visibly severe | or medical conditions preclude immediate treatment |
the Charge Nurse may coordinate with the Watch Lieutenant | to have the inmate segregated from general population |
The inmate's clothing and linen will be changed | without delay |
The suspect items will be placed and sealed | in a water-soluble bag, and returned to laundry |
The contaminated items will be washed separately | from non-contaminated items |
The mattress and surrounding areas will be cleaned | with a solution of one part bleach to ten parts water |
If inmates in the immediate vicinity of the contaminated inmate are also affected | they will be treated individually, as described above |
If the contamination is widespread | the Chief of Health Services Division or his designee will determine if the entire dorm needs to be treated |
Basic sanitation supplies may | at a minimum, consist of the following: 1. Broom; 2. Dust pan; 3. Mop |
Carpeted areas should be vacuumed routinely | and cleaned as needed |
Visitation areas should be observed | for any sanitation discrepancies |
Trash from these areas should be immediately | discarded to prevent possible introduction of contraband |
As part of the housekeeping and /sanitation plan | thorough searches should be routinely conducted |
PDF area supervisors are responsible for ensuring | Daily Deep Cleaning Tasks are completed as required |
The area supervisor's inspection of this task | will be documented on the Supervisor's Accountability Report |
Any hazards or unclean conditions will immediately | be corrected by inmates or trusties assigned to that area |
Area supervisors will inspect their area daily | and note any evidence of vermin or pests on the Supervisor's Accountability Report |
Never use objects to pry into equipment to dislodge dust or debris | Report maintenance or severe sanitation problems to the Information Systems Management (ISM) Unit |
Do not use oil-based cleaners or cleaners with abrasive effects | or cleaners with abrasive effects |
The manufacturer does not recommend | pouring liquids directly on the glass platens |
