QuestionAnswer
Orbit The path one object takes as it revolves around another object in space.
Rotation Making a complete spin on an axis.
Axis An imaginary line that a sphere rotates around.
Revolution Making a complete turn or orbit around an axis or center
Lunar cycle The moon's continuous orbit around the Earth.
Satellite A celestial body or an artificial body orbiting the earth or another planet.
Moon A natural satellite of a planet.
Celestial object A natural object which is located outside of Earth's atmosphere, such as the Moon, the Sun, an asteroid, planet, or star.
Apparent movement an optical illusion in which stationary objects viewed in relation to moving objects appear to be in motion.
Atmosphere The envelope of gases surrounding the earth or another planet.
Phases A stage in a process of change or development
Crescent The curved sickle shape of the waxing or waning moon.
Gibbous The moon when it is more than half lighted but less than full.
Visible Able to be seen.
Tides The alternate rising and falling of the sea, due to the attraction of the moon and sun.
Gravity The force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass.
Equator An imaginary line drawn around the earth equally distant from both poles, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres.
Hemisphere A half of the celestial sphere.
Prime Meridian An imaginary line that divides the earth into eastern and western hemispheres.
Tilt Inclined at an angle.
