Unit 1 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Integers The set of positive whole numbers, their opposites and zero.
Coordinate Plane Formed by a horizontal number line called the x-axis and a vertical number line called the y-axis.
x-axis The horizontal number line on a coordinate plane.
y-axis The vertical number line on a coordinate plane.
origin The point of intersection of the x and y axes on a coordinate plane.
ordered pair Identifies the location of a point.
x-coordinate The first number in an ordered pair. It tells the number of horizontal units a point is from the origin.
y-coordinate The second number in an ordered pair. It tells the number of vertical units a point is from the origin.
quadrants The name given to the 4 regions of the coordinate plane that are divided by the x and y axes.
horizontal Lines parallel to the x-axis.
vertical Lines parallel to the y-axis
absolute value A number's distance from zero on a number line.
