Biotic | Biotic factors are all the living things in an ecosystem. |
Abiotic | Abiotic factors are all the no-living things in an ecosystem. |
Producer (What other name do we give it) | Producers are plants and animals that make their own food using photosynthesis. We also call them autotrophs. |
Consumer (What other name do we give it) | Consumers are organisms that don't make their own food they eat producers or other organisms. We also call them heterotrophs. |
Decomposer | A decomposer is an organism that breaks down dead organisms and returns the nutrients back into the soil. |
Herbivore | An herbivore is an organism that eats only plants. They are primary consumers. |
Carnivore | A carnivore is an organism that only eats meat. They can be secondary consumers or more. |
Omnivore | An omnivore is an organism that eats both plants and animals. Like US! |
Scavenger | A scavenger is an organism that eats dead plants or animals. |
Food Chain | A food chain shows how matter and energy move through an ecosystem in a series of steps showing which organisms transfer energy by eating and being eaten. |
Food Web | A food web is a model that shows all the feeding relationships at each trophic level in a community. (Links all food chains in an ecosystem together) |
Sun's Role in Food | The sun gives energy to producers which then get eaten and pass on energy form the sun to the next organism and so on and so on. |
Energy Pyramid | An energy pyramid is a pyramid that shows how the energy is passed on from one animal to the other and how much is left. |
Symbiosis | Symbiosis is how organisms interact with each other. |
Mutualism | Mutualism is when both organisms get a positive result because of the symbiosis, |
Commensalism | Commensalism is when one organism comes out with a positive result but the other organism isn't affected at all because of the symbiosis. |
Parastism | Parasitism is when one organism gets a positive result and the other organism is harmed or dies because of the symbiotic relationship. |
Predator | Predator is the organism that hunts the prey. |
Prey | Prey is the organism that is hunted. |
Competion | |
Adaptation | |
How does predator and prey interact? | |
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web? |
