karma | In Hinduism and Buddhism, the effects that good or bad actions have on a person's soul |
fasting | going without food and water for a period of time |
meditation | deep continued thought that focuses the mind on spiritual ideas |
Buddhism | a religion based on the teachings of Buddha that developed in India in the 500s BC |
the Buddha | the "Enlightened One," Siddhartha Gautama found enlightenment under a tree, and spent the rest of his life teaching people his ideas |
nirvana | a state of perfect peace in Buddhism |
metallurgy | the use of metal, or metal working |
inoculation | to inoculate; a shot or vaccination |
missionaries | a person who goes out to spread religion to others |
