How was the Nile important to the relationship between Nubia and Egypt? The nile served as a major waterway between them. It increased trade between the two.
What was the most significant achievement of Piankhi's rule? He united Egypt and Kush
Why did the people of Meroe learn to smelt Iron? They learned through their defeat by the Assyrians that iron weapons were important to their safety
What factors led to the rise of Aksum? The power of Kush declined; Aksum's location made it a trading center.
How did Ezana expand Aksum's power? He added territory and built Aksum into a trading nation.
What kind of structures were built in Aksum and what purpose did they serve? Great pillars celebrated achievements and victories; temples and churches were part of worship.
Why did people living on the plains of central Africa practice herding? The soil was to thin to support agriculture
Why were archaeologist suprised to discover that the Nok produced iron? Previous evidence suggested that iron making had occurred only in the eastern rail of Africa.
Why was the migration of Bantu speakers so slow? Groups of Bantu speakers would migrate to a new place and live there for a while before moving on.
How did Aksum farmers increase productivity? They built terraces and irrigation systems.
