Basale, spinosum, granulosum, and corneum. The layers of the Epidermis, beginning with the deepest layer and proceeding outwardly, including the Stratum.
Basale and Spinosum The layers of the Epidermis where mitotic divisions occur.
The Epidermis consists of: Stratified squamous epithilium.
Differences in skin color between individuals reflect distict: Numbers of Melanocytes/ levels of Melanin synthesis.
The basic factors interacting to produce skin color are: Circulatory supply and pigment concentration and composition.
When exposed to ultraviolet radiation, epidermal cells in the Stratum Basale and Stratum Spinosum convert a cholesterol - related steroid into: Vitamin D3
Calcitriol The hormone essential for the normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus by the small intestines.
EF has an effect on epithelial tissue in that it: Promotes cell divisions, production of keratin, epidermal development and repair.
Major components of the dermis Papillary and Reticular Layer.
Dermis contains to communicate with organ systems Blood vessels, Lymphatic vessels, nerve endings.
Areola and Adipose Primary tissues compromising the hypodermis
The reason the hypodermis is a good location for subcutaneous injection by hypodermic needle is: Limited number of Capillaries and no vital organs.
An important function of the subcutaneous layer is to: Stabilize the position of the skin in relation to underlying tissues.
Arrector Pili muscles do this Goose bumps.
Hair production occurs in the: Hair follicle, in the hair matrix.
The natural factor responsible for varying shades of hair color is the: Type of pigment.
Accessory structures of the skin include the: Hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands.
Sensible perspiration released by the eccrine sweat glands serves to: Cool the surface of the skin, reduce body temperature, and dilute harmful chemicals.
When the body temp. Gets abnormally high: Increase sweat gland activity and blood flow to the skin.
Nail production occurs at an epithelial fold called the: Nail root.
The immediate response by the skin to an injury is: Bleeding and an inflammatory response triggered by damaged mast cells.
The practical limit to the healing process of the skin is the formation of inflexible, fibrous, noncellular: Scar tissue.
Hair turns grey or white due to: Decreased Melanocyte activity.
Sagging and wrinkling of the integument occurs from: A decrease in the elastic fiber network of the dermis.
