gravity The force that pulls bodies or objects toward other bodies or objects.
orbit The path that Earth and seven other planets make as they move around the Sun.
planet A large body of rock or gas that does not produce its own light and orbits around a star.
solar system A system made up of the Sun, eight planets, and smaller bodies that orbit the Sun.
gas giants The four largest planets in Earth's solar system that consist mainly of gases.
lunar eclipse An event in which the Moon passes into Earth's shadow.
axis an imaginary line through the center of an object.
phases of the Moon Changes in the amount of sunlight that reaches the side of the Moon that faces the Earth as the Moon orbits the Earth.
revolution The movement in a path around an object.
rotation The turning of a planet on its axis.
star a huge ball of very hot gases that gives off light, heat, and other kinds of energy.
constellation A group of stars that forms a pattern in the night sky.
galaxy A huge system, or group, of stars held together by gravity.
universe The system made up of all the matter energy there is, including the galaxies, and their stars, planets, and moons.
atmosphere The layer of air that surrounds Earth's surface.
weather The conditions of the atmosphere at a certain place and time.
front A place were to air masses meet.
air mass A large body of air that has about the same temperature, air pressure, and moisture throughout.
air pressure The weight of the air as it presses down on Earth's surface.
