Adolph Hitler German dictator. Went from having no power to all of it and ruled with an iron fist. Wanted all of Europe to become German because he believed Germany was the great nation. Manipulated his way into power.
Enabling Act After getting 2/3 of the majority, Hitler became a legal dictator who could act on his own w/o gov. Once he was legalized, he declared all other parties illegal thus making him and the Nazis supreme.
Joseph Stalin Ruled the Soviet Union for more than two decades, instituting a reign of terror while modernizing Russia and helping to defeat Nazism. Communist
Sudetenland Has a predominately German population, was incorporated into Czechoslovakia. In 1938 participants at the Munich Conference, yielding to Adolf Hitler, transferred it to Germany.
Appeasement The policy of making grants to the dictatorial powers in order to avoid conflict, governed Anglo-French foreign policy during the 1930s.
Neville Chamberlain Served as British prime minister and is best known for his policy of "appeasement" toward Adolf Hitler's Germany.
General Fransico Franco rose to power during Spanish Civil War when, with the help of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, his Nationalist forces overthrew the democratically elected Second Republic. Exerted absolute control over the country.
Spanish Civil War Military revolt against Republican government of Spain, supported by conservative elements w/n the country. The Nationalists, as the rebels were called, received aid from Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. The Republicans received aid from the Soviet Union
Anschluss Political union of Austria w/Germany, achieved through adding already claimed land by Adolf Hitler in 1938. Became less attractive as Hitler continued to rise to power.
