Types of stores
Term | Definition |

Department Stores | They sell a variety of products and may offer a number of customer services, such as free delivery or repairs. |
Specialty Stores | They usually sell one type of merchandise such as sporting goods or shoes. Offers a wide variety...often charges more. |
Discount Stores | Because they buy in large quantities and limit the number of clerks and customer services, their prices are usually lower than department stores. |
Factory Outlets | Manufacturers sell their products directly to shoppers at these stores. Prices may be lower than those at department stores. Some items ay be seconds, with slight imperfections, or they may be discontinued. |
Warehouse Clubs | These charge lower prices than most supermarkets or department stores because they buy in bulk and offer little or no services. They also charge a member ship fee. |
Mail-order Companies | These companies feature catalogs of items you can order and have sent to you, thus saving time. When comparing price among mail-order companies remember to add shipping and handling fees, or perhaps a sales tax to items from catalog. |
Electronic Shopping | You can use a TV or a computer to select and buy items without leaving home. Home-shopping channels and the internet offer a variety or products you ca buy with a credit card account |
Other Shopping Alternatives | Garage and yard sales, flea markets, and swap meets provide merchandise often for low prices. with no customer service and no returns. Auctions and classified ads offer new and used items. |
