08 Basic Computer Class Week 3 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
The Internet A worldwide network of computers that allows individual and business users around the world to share information, resources and to conduct business transactions.
World Wide Web A small part of the internet that supports a vast collection of documents that combine text with pictures, sounds, and even animation and video. These documents are called Web Pages.
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) A set of special codes or tags that define the layout of the Web page content.
Web Browser A software program that allows you to access web pages.
Search Engine Web-based application that helps you find specific information on the Web by looking for Web pages that contain specific keywords or phrases.
A Uniform Resource Locater (URL) A Web Address
Credibility The quality of being believed or accepted as true, real, or honest
Network Any two or more computers or computing devices connected together for the purpose of sharing data and resources.
Router Device used to connect multiple computers and other computing devices into a network.
Server A high-performance computer that is able to receive requests from other computers and respond to them. Servers are usually dedicated to one specific type of data, such as web pages, games, video, or e-mail.
Modem A device that connects your computer to the internet.
