Fracture A physical property of some minerals that causes them to break jaggedly
Gem A rare mineral that is commonly used in jewelry
Hardness How hard something is
Luster The way a mineral reflects light
Magma Hot, melted rock undergorund
Mineral A naturally occurring solid
Ore A deposit in which a mineral exists
Silicate Describes a mineral that contains silicon and oxygen
Specific Gravity The ratio of a mineral's weight compared to the weight of an equal volume of water
Streak The color of a mineral in its powdered form
Basaltic Describes dark-colored igneous rocks
Cementation A type of forming of sedimentary rocks
Extrusive Describes fine-grained igneous rocks
Foilated Describes metamorphic rocks
Granitic Describes generically light-colored rocks
Igneous Rock A type of rock formed when magma or lava cools and hardens
Intrusive Describes a type of igneous rock that generally contains large crystals
Metamorphic Rock A type of rock that forms when heat, pressure, or fluids act on any other rock
Non-Foilated Describes metamorphic rocks of which grains do not generally form layers
Rock A mixture of one ore more minerals
Rock Cycle A model that shows how rocks slowly change from one to another
Sediment A loose material that has been moved by wind, water, ice, or gravity
Sedimentary Rock A type of rock that forms when sediments are compacted and cemented together
