**Fungal infections- | |

occur when normally harmless fungi gain entry into the skin rather than staying on the outer layer of skin, the epidermis | These infections are usually external affecting the skin, hair, and nails. EX: tinea pedis (atheletes foot), tinea cruris (jock itch) & Ringworm |
ACNE- A bacterial infection accompanied by an over production of Sebum. | Sebum- only substance produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. |
ACNE- can be catorgorized into catagories: inflammatory acne & non inflammatory acne. | Acne is the most common skin disease, occurs in appoximately 85% of people between the ages of (12&24) |
Cellulitis- inflammation of the connective tissue of the skin caused by staphylococcus, streptococcus,or other bacterium. | Parasitic infections- caused by insects or worms that burrow into the skin to live &/or lay their eggs. |
Parasite- An organism that lives on or inside another organism | Common parasitic infections- Scabies & Lice |
A pt who has a Rx to treat a parasitic infection should be told to wash in very hot water,or dry clean all recently worn clothing, sheeps, pillow cases & towels |
