Pangaea the name of the single landmass that broke apart 200 million years ago and gave rise to today's continents.
continental drift the hypothesis that the continents slowly move across Earth's surface.
fossil a trace of an ancient organism that has been preserved in rock.
evidence from climate remains from tropical plants have been found in the Arctic Ocean; deep scratches from glaciers have been found in South Africa.
evidence from landforms mountain ranges in Africa and South America line up when looking at maps pieced together.
Wegener the name of the scientist who formed the hypothesis that the continents had once been joined together and have since moved apart.
