Democracy A form of government in which people choose leaders by voting.
Oligarchy- Government or control by a small group of people --Ruled by a few
Monarchy A form of government with a monarch at the head. Ruled by One
Agora a public open space used for assemblies and markets.
Polis a city state in ancient Greece
Helot- a member of a class of serfs in ancient Sparta, intermediate in status between slaves and citizens.
Peninsula a piece of land almost surrounded by water or projecting out into a body of water. Surrounded by water on 3 sides
Island- a piece of land completely surrounded by water
Tyrant- Is someone who takes power by force and rules with total authority.
Persian War Persia wanted to expand their Territory and fought Greece to get their land. Athens and Sparta fought on the same side in this war.
Peloponnesian War After the Persian War Athens Tried to take over and Sparta did not like it Sparta revolted and Athens got mad and wanted to teach Sparta a lesson. They went to war. Athen with their Naval Fleet on water and Sparta with their Warriors on the ground.
Plague- A deadly disease that spreads rapidly and leaves behind death
Naval Fleet- Consists of Fighting Ships and an army
Sparta - Polis (Greek City-State) with a Warrior culture found in Ancient Greece
Athens Polis (Greek City-State) with a Warrior culture found in Ancient Greece
Socrates A famous ancient Greek philosopher
