Vocabulary Terms and Definitions for Unit 5 Part 1: Job Search

TermDefinition
Applicant A person applying for a job.
Follow Up Letter Interview thank you letter.
Help-wanted ads Notices that employers put in the classified section of the paper describing their job openings.
Interview A formal meeting between an employer and job applicant about a job opening.
Job Application The tool that employers use to find out basic information about job applicants.
Job opening/lead Any information about possible job openings.
Job search The act of looking for employment.
Letter of Application Letter that accompanies a resume, also known as a cover letter.
Reference A person who will give a favorable report of a job applicant to the employer.
Résumé A short written description of an applicant’s personal data, education, and experience, related to a job.
Screen out To eliminate unwanted applicants.
