Why are fossil fuels considered to be NONRENEWABLE resources? They are used faster than they are produced.
What are the three types of fossil fuels? Coal, oil, and natural gas.
What is coal formed from? Dead, swamp plants.
What is the cleanest burning (lowest levels of air pollutants) fossil fuel? Natural gas
Which fossil fuel is gasoline made from (refined)? petroleum, oil.
What is the difference between a renewable resource and a nonrenewable resource? Renewable means that it can be replaced.
Five renewable resources of ENERGY. solar, hydroelectric, wind, tidal, and biomass
Non-renewable resources Resources that cannot be replaced.
Examples of non-renewable resources Coal, oil, natural gas
Fossil fuels They are non-renewable resources
What are biomass fuels? Sewage, wood, and other trash.
What are the four R's? reduce, recycle, renew, and reuse.
Explain the following methods of soil conservation (crop rotation, no till farming, terracing, cover crop, and contour plowing. 1 Alternate crops each year so nutrients rebuild in the soil 2 Dead stalks & roots are left in soil to help hold in place 3 Farm on terraces built along a hill. slows down water 4 Planting a crop (hold soil in place) 5 Plowing fields (curves/slope)
List 3 ways you can conserve water at home 1 Turn off water while brushing your teeth 2 Take short showers 3 Only use washer with full loads
List 3 ways that you can conserve energy at home 1 Turn lights off when out 2 Only turn air on when needed 3 Only plug things in when needed
What is the difference between point source and non point source ? Point source is where you can see where the pollution is coming from and non point source is where you cant see where the pollution is coming from
Define energy conservation Energy conservation is when you reduce energy
Define agriculture Use drip irrigation systems instead of sprinkler irrigation systems
List 3 disadvantages and advantages of hydroelectric power Dis - 1) Too much water 2) Disturbs habitats 3) Expensive Advan - 1) No pollution 2) Renewable 3) Helps climates
What are biomass fuels? Sewage, wood, and crops
What is the difference between geothermal energy and solar power? Geothermal is from the shallow ground, to hot water, and hot rock Solar power uses the sun.
What is happening to our reserves of fossil fuels because of our increase of population? The fossil fuels are running out because there are too many people using them.
What was the Dust Bowl? When a bunch of dust clouds formed and destroyed a lot of things.
What was the main cause of the Dust Bowl? Drought
Which part of the US did the Dust Bowl begin? Midwestern and southern plains.
